SANITIZE YOUR BRAND

Image
The world is today seeing a progressive movement from the bad to the good. Except for the casualties and deaths, the pandemic has brought along many valuable learnings for mankind. The emerging new order in business will have humanity as its pivot. In such a scenario, it will not suffice to focus on the product alone to drive business. The post-pandemic buying psychology would possibly be equated to the iceberg concept. According to iceberg theory, 80% of the reason for brand adoption would be based on brand essence, and not product benefits or features. Simply put, brands should shed excessive thrust on Value Proposition and switch to what we call the 'Value Purposition'. A recent research by Accenture reveals that 63% of consumers prefer to purchase from purpose-driven brands, 65% say they prefer brands that treat employees well, 62% support companies that have reduced the use of plastics, are environmentally conscious and adhere to ethical values, and 74% want transparency i...

ONLY WHEN NATURE EXISTS, BRANDS EXIST

Image
When we think of our Mother, the thoughts that flash across our minds have always been of a person who is compassionate, kind, selfless, and who finds extreme happiness in giving. Can we ever think of her being harmed in any manner? A Mother never measures out her blessings, she lets them flow in abundance. So too Mother Earth. She has been showering us with her blessings, which have never abated in any way. She is kind enough to provide us with everything that we need to survive and thrive on, be it oxygen, food, water, medicine or materials for shelter. So don't we have a duty towards protecting her resources, not using them nonchalantly, and preserving her rich resources for the next generation? Sustainable development is the key and this is impossible without a change in our attitude towards Mother Earth. The need for sustainability calls for a behavioural change in each one of us. What better time than now, when we are in the process of controlling and overcoming the pandemic,...

BIOLOGY OF BUYOLOGY

Image
Buyologists say that a consumer is emotion-driven. Is this just a gut feeling or has it anything to do with real biology? Thanks to Antonio Damasio for giving the world the fabulous idea of  Somatic Markers.  A visual or verbal cue used in communication arouses an emotion in a person that could be good or bad. Let's assume for our understanding that a product creates a positive emotion in a person. An emotion is a physical and mental experience. It brings about a change in heartbeat, the flow of neurotransmitters, triggering of the endocrine system and changes in muscle tone, and all these lead to a pleasant mental state. It can be real, experienced through your senses, or imagined by your mind, or to simply put it in a neuroscientific lingo, it could be through the 'body-loop' when it's sensory or through the 'as-if-body-loop' when it's imagined. Each emotion linked to a product/service leaves a  Unique Neural Fingerprint (UNF)  in your network, which is...

VIRAL MEMETICS

Image
It would be interesting to you if I say that the Darwinian  'Natural Selection'  also applies to your ideas. They take birth from you; they change over time and evolve to become even more effective replicators. In short, it's the viral propagation of  memes Dawkins talked about  'meme'  as any cultural entity that exhibits self-replication. The concept is today extended to the social media platforms as our thoughts and ideas find their replication through multiple forms/formats.   In essence, memes are cultural analogues of genes.  Today, they have acquired the ability to spread through social media platforms and exhibit infectious qualities. They very much spread through social interactions the same way viral infections do. Audiences are either susceptible, infected, recovered or re-infected by memes. You are susceptible if you are not yet exposed to the meme. If you are already exposed, and you are no more interested in it, then you have recov...

CRISIS IN CAPITALISM LEADS TO A CRISIS IN DEMOCRACY, OPINES SHRI ARUN MAIRA

Image
A crisis has hit Capitalism, and its adverse effect leads to a crisis in Democracy, opined Shri Arun Maira, Former Member, Planning Commission & Former Chairman, Boston Consulting Group while participating in the Second Purpose Roundtable conducted by the Centre for Higher Purpose in Business. Elaborating on the Corporations' role in the new world, Shri Arun Maira said, "Business corporations have created a system where the institution's sole purpose is to give maximum profit for its investors. Owing to the limited liability, the investors' liability is only to the capital that one had invested. They are not liable to the adverse effect the business is having on society. This selfish nature of business is now corrupting democracy, wherein the Corporations have become more equal citizens of society than others".
